More New Things

This past weekend, Carson wanted to camp out in our living room. So, he grabbed a pop up play "tent", a thin camping pad, and his Lightning McQueen sleeping bag. We had him all set up in the middle of the living room, and even gave him a ball cap with built in lights. To no one's surprise, he had a tough time getting sleepy. And, finally at 10:30 pm, he announced that he wanted to crawl into his bed, because it's more comfortable.

One newer thing that Carson is doing daily is vision therapy exercises. We have recently learned that just because a person sees 20/20, does not mean they don't have trouble seeing. What is often called functional vision involves things like the two eyes being able to work together (binocularity), their ability to shift focus from near to far and back, efficiently (accomodation), and being able to follow moving objects (tracking). These are areas the Carson is exercising daily, using a computer program, and special lenses. This pictures shows him using the red/blue glasses (that give a 3-D effect for 3 of his exercises), and a set of lenses that slightly reduce power in one eye, while increasing it in the other one.
These various exercises and lenses make Carson work his eyes. This is not easy, and at times there is a lot of resistance. Well, it's pretty much daily. But this won't be forever... several months perhaps, but not forever.
